- Partner with the janitorial staff of FUMC in cleaning and disinfecting the preschool area.
- Partner with other staff and ministry areas to make certain we are cleaning shared spaces
- Provide hand sanitizer in every classroom and disinfectant spray for frequent use
- Hand hygiene stations will be set up at the entrances to the preschool and at the entrance to the playground so that children can clean their hands upon entering and exiting. A hand sanitizer stand will also be placed curbside at the carpool entrance/exit under the breezeway.
- Handwashing posters will be placed in all classrooms and around the campus.
- We will post signs and symptoms of COVID 19 around the campus.
- We will hire a designated staff member to take temperatures throughout the day and supervise our cleaning and disinfecting policies.
- Staff and students remain home if sick
- Staff will be encouraged to use every day preventative actions to stay well
- Teachers that are over age 65 or have any underlying conditions must talk with their health care provider to assess their risk and determine if they can safely work with small children. A letter signed by a physician may be required for staff before returning.
- All staff will be trained on the correct handwashing procedures, how to properly wear and remove personal protective
- equipment. Staff members will be properly trained on assisting children ages 3 months to 6 years old on proper handwashing and hand hygiene. This includes the safe use of hand sanitizer in small children.
- Staff will be provided with a face covering and/or other protective gear, if desired
- We will talk with parents with children that have underlying conditions about their risks and discuss the child’s care plans for their condition.
- We will talk with parents with children that have disabilities about how their children can continue to receive the support they need.
- No child will be allowed to attend FUMC Preschool if they have had the following symptoms in the previous 24 hours: Rash, cough, vomiting and general lethargy

- Pick up -Teachers will bring the child and put them in the car. Parents then need to get out and strap the child correctly in the car seat
- Parents dropping off late or picking up early will call the school and we will walk the child to the car. Parents will be highly encouraged to be on time and use the carpool line.
- Children will stay in their classroom until their ride is ready. No one will be allowed to sit in the hallways
- Early drop off must be modified
5. All classrooms must be evaluated and items/toys/etc. removed that could help spread germs
6. Look into additional spaces that may be needed
Phase Three (School re-opens)
1. Implement Screening procedures upon arrival:
- Temperatures will be checked upon arrival of all children and staff. Periodic temperature checks will be made throughout the day as well.
- Children will be asked to wash their hands immediately upon arrival that will be supervised by staff for correct procedure. Handwashing will be encouraged throughout the day. Teachers will wash their hands upon arrival, before and after carpool and between each activity of the day. This is in addition to handwashing after each diaper change or toilet use.
- We have suspended our “open door” policy. We will no longer allow parents to enter the preschool building at any time. We will only operate through our carpool line drop off and pick up.
- We will limit events and programs that require close contact such as field trips, music programs and classroom guests.
- Our classes will include the same group each day.
- We will be practicing social distancing as much as little children can. We will use the learning center approach to
keep children in small groups around each classroom. - We will not combine different age classrooms at any point during the day.
- Separate large classes into smaller ones
- We will be eating lunch in the classrooms
- Music/Art or any specials will be in the classrooms
- At naptime we will ensure nap mats are spaced out as much as possible (ideally 6 feet) and will try to place children
head to toe to reduce potential for germs to spread.
- Use checklist cleaning and sanitizing the highly touched surfaces after every class such as doors, handles, tables, water fountains, light switches, and toilet hands. We will clean and sanitize the baby beds, nap cots, and toys in our infant and toddler rooms daily.
- We will provide hand sanitizer in every classroom and around the campus for frequent use.
- We will use gloves when handling any snack or food item.
- We ask that each child bring their own water bottle at this time filled with water for the day.
- All cleaning materials will be kept secure and out of reach of children.
- Staff that are at high risk or not comfortable working at this time are allowed to stay home and take an unpaid leave of absence. Their jobs will be available when they are able to return.
- FUMC Preschool will maintain an adequate substitute teacher list to plan for absenteeism and illness
- We will have an isolation room if a child becomes sick at school to remove the child from other children and staff as soon as detected. Parents will be called to pick up immediately. They can call our office from the carpool line and we will walk the child out to the car.
- We will close off areas used by the infected person and open any windows or doors we can to increase air circulation.
- If COVID-19 is confirmed in a child or staff member we will wait up to 24 hours to clean and disinfect to allow for respiratory droplets to settle before cleaning and disinfecting according to the CDC recommendations. We will
also clean and disinfect any common areas used by the sick person such as offices, restrooms, and common areas. - Sick staff and children may be asked to stay home an additional 14 days before returning
